Frost Fighting Wind machines

To kick this blog off, this topic is hot at the moment and I understand the necessity of these machines to the economy of the Waipara Valley. Living about 8km away from the machines means I don't get affected. There are only going to be increasing numbers of wind machines and future residents should be made aware of what they're moving into.

It's like living in a war zone when frost fighting occurs -we understand you are fighting for your harvest. I really feel for the people on the Main road with the vibration and disturbance. I am not sure if there is an answer but I hope there is.

It's ectactly like a war zone and quite exciting. I do feel that those affected by the wind machines should think ahead to harvest time and consider the possibility of bird bangers on a large scale. That could be the last straw for some?

yes, I was talking to an affected local the other day and dropped that particular 'bird-baning' bomb shell!

Try living in a peaceful area then the Hurunui Council gives permission for 53 wind fans without proper resource consent notification. This after many complaints over 1 olive grove fan. Resource management case law was recommending in 2000 that councils need to be cautious on this type of consent.We now have an airport next to us with what sounds like Iroquois helicopters that run for over 9 hours continuous with air reverberation, ground vibration, decibel readings greatly exceeding the legal limits. A great strain has been placed on our resources by this vineyard as well as a greatly stressed neighbourhood.

We live over the back fence and can hear the frost fans from the vineyard you are talking about. It's not really that bad and I still maintain it's an awful lot better than the alternatives... imagine 15 helicopters or a whole lot of water drawn from your aquifer to spray water to fight the frost.

One thing the company seems to have failed on is communication with neighbours. For the frequency of frost events and hindsight could the agression have been eased by the offer of a few cases of wine and or some "Pamper packages" at Hanmer
Springs??

How nice to find frost fan comments elsewhere in the blog-o-sphere!
Have they begun working again yet this year?
You may be interested in some frost fan info being set up at the following;

The Hurunui Council have dragged out the wind fan saga for almost a year now with nothing yet being done to sort their mess out.With the Environment Court decision in Marlborough now made it is time to take both the Council and Waiata to the Environment court to stop the airport they created.
